CAE Wins $57M Deal for MH-60R Training Devices for Indian Navy

CAE Defense & Security USA has been awarded a $57 million contract by the U.S Navy to provide state-of-the-art MH-60R Seahawk helicopter pilot training devices to the Indian Navy. This contract, facilitated through the U.S. Department of Defense’s Foreign Military Sales program, underscores the growing importance of advanced simulation technology in military training and international defense cooperation.

The contract encompasses the delivery of two sophisticated training systems: an MH-60R Tactical Operational Flight Trainer (TOFT) and an Avionics Maintenance and Weapons Load Trainer (AMWLT). These systems are specifically tailored to meet the unique requirements of the Indian Navy, enhancing their capabilities in operating and maintaining the advanced MH-60R Seahawk helicopter fleet.

The MH-60R TOFT represents the pinnacle of helicopter simulation technology. It combines a full-motion operational flight trainer with a weapons tactics trainer, creating an immersive environment for pilots, rear-crew sensor operators, and airborne tactics officers. This integrated approach allows for comprehensive mission rehearsal and skill development in a safe, controlled setting.

Complementing the TOFT, the AMWLT is designed to train maintenance personnel and military staff in critical aircraft support missions. This trainer focuses on essential tasks related to avionics maintenance and weapons loading, ensuring that ground crews are fully prepared to support the MH-60R fleet’s operational readiness.

Both training devices will come equipped with advanced hardware, comprehensive courseware, network components, and detailed documentation specific to the MH-60 platform. The contract also includes provisions for future upgrades, incorporating cutting-edge systems such as an identification friend or foe (IFF) interrogator and transponder, a traffic collision avoidance system, and advanced weaponry simulations including anti-ship missiles and depth charges.

CAE’s selection for this contract is backed by nearly two decades of experience in providing MH-60 training devices to the U.S. Navy. This long-standing relationship has positioned CAE as a leader in military aviation simulation technology.

Merrill Stoddard, Division President at CAE Defense & Security USA, emphasized the company’s unique position in the industry, stating, “CAE’s unmatched experience as a platform-independent training and simulation provider enables us to develop and enhance solutions that advance mission readiness.” This expertise allows CAE to deliver training systems that not only meet current needs but also anticipate future technological advancements in naval aviation.

This contract signifies more than just a business transaction; it represents a strategic enhancement of India’s naval capabilities and strengthens the defense ties between the United States and India. By providing the Indian Navy with advanced training systems for the MH-60R Seahawk, CAE is playing a crucial role in elevating the operational effectiveness and readiness of India’s naval aviation forces.
