Kongsberg to Deliver Joint Strike Missiles to USAF for F-35s
Kongsberg to Deliver Joint Strike Missiles to USAF for F-35s Lightning II fighter jets. The JSM is designed specifically to be carried internally on the F-35, providing the aircraft with a potent and stealthy anti-surface strike capability.
The JSM is a fire-and-forget missile developed by Norway to engage high-value surface targets at long ranges. With its ability to be launched from the F-35’s internal weapons bay, JSM enhances the aircraft’s survivability and maintains its low-radar cross section during maritime strike operations.
Kongsberg hailed the USAF’s JSM procurement decision, stating it “validates JSM as the internal strike capability for the F-35A.” The U.S. is the world’s largest operator of the F-35, and JSM’s integration will give the stealth fighter a formidable, long-range anti-ship and land-attack capability previously unmatched.

The Norwegian firm also highlighted JSM’s superiority over other anti-ship missiles. Its advanced materials, terrain-hugging ability, and electronic countermeasures allow JSM to penetrate the most sophisticated enemy defenses with exceptional stand-off range.
While procurement details were not revealed, the USAF acquisition of JSM represents a major victory for Kongsberg and its partners in securing a dominant position for future maritime supremacy competitions between leading military powers.
