HAVELSAN USV-12 demonstration

HAVELSAN Demonstrates Coordinated Unmanned Air and Maritime Operations

HAVELSAN has shown that an unmanned surface vessel and an aerial drone can operate together as a single coordinated system. In a recent field demonstration, the company combined the USV-12 unmanned boat with the SAGAN unmanned aircraft and managed the entire mission through its own command, control and autonomy software. The result offers a clear look at where multi-domain unmanned operations are heading.

How the Demonstration Unfolded

The USV-12, manufactured by VN MARITIME, started the exercise by navigating on its own. Once underway, the SAGAN UAV, developed by ASİSGUARD, took off from the vessel without human intervention in the launch. It then released a 60 mm mortar round onto a designated target and completed its mission successfully.

Each step showed a different part of the system working in sequence, from the boat’s movement to the drone’s launch and the final strike.

Command and Control at the Centre of the Mission

The demonstration was not just about two machines doing their own jobs. HAVELSAN’s command and control system tied the activity together, handling mission management and autonomous functions across both platforms. Operators kept control over target engagement, while the system managed the mission area as a whole.

Built for Interoperability

HAVELSAN develops its solutions with an interoperability approach that follows NATO standards. Its architecture allows unmanned systems from different manufacturers to be brought under one common command and control framework and to carry out coordinated missions.

For defence buyers who already operate a mix of platforms, that flexibility is a practical advantage. It means a navy or armed force does not have to commit to a single manufacturer to build an integrated unmanned capability.

Why Sea and Air Assets Matter Together

Unmanned surface vessels have often been discussed on their own, but this demonstration points to a different model. When a boat can carry and support an aerial asset, its usefulness expands well beyond patrol or surveillance tasks.

HAVELSAN says it will keep building multi-domain unmanned capabilities, bringing command and control, mission management and autonomy together across different platforms. This demonstration is an early sign of how that work is taking shape.
