PNS HUNAIN was delivered to the Pakistan Navy
Pakistan Navy reached a significant milestone with the commissioning of PNS HUNAIN at Constanta Port, Romania. This new addition to the Pakistani naval fleet marks an important step in enhancing the country’s maritime capabilities and operational readiness.
The commissioning ceremony was a high-profile event attended by senior civil and military officials, including members of the diplomatic corps. Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI(M), T.Bt, Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan Navy, presided over the ceremony as the chief guest. Notable attendees included General Gheorghita Vlad, Chief of Defence Staff, and Vice Admiral Mihai Panait, Chief of Romanian Navy, underscoring the international significance of this naval acquisition.
PNS HUNAIN, constructed at DAMEN Shipyards, is described as a multipurpose and highly agile platform of medium size and tonnage. Key features of the ship include the ability to perform a variety of maritime operations and the capacity to embark a multirole helicopter. It is capable of operating independently or as part of a Task Force for extended duration missions.
In his address, Admiral Naveed Ashraf emphasized the strategic importance of PNS HUNAIN to the Pakistan Navy. He highlighted that the ship adds a new set of capabilities to the Navy’s operational sphere, enhancing its ability to maintain a forward presence and perpetual readiness. The Admiral also stressed the ship’s role in contributing to ‘Freedom of Navigation’, signaling Pakistan’s commitment to international maritime norms and security.
The commissioning of PNS HUNAIN also showcases international cooperation in naval technology and shipbuilding. Admiral Ashraf acknowledged the professional competence and shipbuilding expertise of the Romanian workforce at DAMEN Shipyard, Galati. This recognition points to the potential for future cooperation between Pakistan and Romania in naval technology and shipbuilding.
