Australia Boosts Defense with $100M Bushmaster Purchase

The Australian government has announced a significant expansion of its defense capabilities with a new order of over 40 Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles. Manufacturing Hub

Thales Australia’s Bendigo facility, with its two-decade history of Bushmaster production, will spearhead this latest manufacturing initiative. The project will sustain over 250 direct jobs in Bendigo, with additional employment benefits extending throughout Victoria’s defense supply chain.

Strategic Military Applications

The new Bushmasters are designated for the Army’s second long-range fires regiment at the Edinburgh Defence Precinct in South Australia. These vehicles will serve a crucial role within the 10th Fires Brigade, specifically supporting multi-mission phased array radar battery operations and command and control functions.

Investment Impact

The Albanese Government’s commitment to defense manufacturing is evident in its over $300 million investment in Bushmaster contracts, resulting in more than 130 vehicles for the Australian Army. The Bushmaster’s reputation for excellence has led to its adoption by nine countries, highlighting its status as a premier protected mobility platform.

Economic and Industrial Benefits

Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy emphasized that this contract demonstrates the government’s dual commitment to national security and industrial capability development. The investment strengthens Australia’s sovereign defense manufacturing capabilities while supporting regional economic growth.
