Türkiye’s Hürjet Aircraft Completes First Supersonic Flight Test
The country’s homegrown light attack aircraft, the Hürjet, has completed its first supersonic flight test. The milestone event, reported by Anadolu Agency (AA), took place on Monday, showcasing the aircraft’s advanced capabilities.
The Hürjet, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), soared into the sky above the capital Ankara, reaching speeds exceeding the sound barrier. This historic test flight, which was accompanied by an F-16 fighter jet, marks a crucial step forward in the Hürjet’s development and its integration into the Turkish Air Forces Command’s inventory.
Hürjet’s Impressive Specifications
The Hürjet is a single-engine, tandem cockpit light attack aircraft featuring a modern avionics suite. With a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet (13.7 kilometers) and a maximum speed of Mach 1.4, the aircraft boasts impressive performance capabilities.
Additionally, the Hürjet can carry a payload of up to 2,721 kilograms (6,000 pounds), further enhancing its versatility and mission-readiness. These advanced features position the Hürjet as a critical asset in the Turkish Air Forces Command’s inventory, providing superior performance and capabilities.
Hürjet’s Role in Türkiye’s Defense
The Hürjet project was initiated by TAI in August 2017 to replace the Turkish army’s aging T-38 training aircraft and F-5 aircraft used in aerobatic team flights. This homegrown development not only meets the domestic needs but also presents opportunities for potential international customers.
