Drone Giant Baykar Becomes One of Top 10 Turkish Exporters

Baykar, the renowned Turkish drone manufacturer, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming one of the top 10 largest exporters in Turkey in 2023. This remarkable feat marks the first time a defense and aerospace company has secured a place on the prestigious list, as announced by Haluk Bayraktar, the company’s general manager, on Saturday.

The “Export Champions Award Ceremony” organized by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) was held in Istanbul on Saturday, graced by the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Bayraktar, along with other awardees from various categories, including the inaugural e-export category, received the honor from the President himself, recognizing the company’s outstanding export achievements.

Baykar secured the 10th position in the goods exports category, while the automotive giant Ford Otomotiv claimed the top spot as the largest exporter.

Reflecting on the company’s journey, Haluk Bayraktar shared insights into how Baykar, which started as a venture in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology in the early 2000s, achieved this remarkable success.

Despite investing solely in research and development for seven years without generating any income, the company’s unwavering belief in the potential of UAVs and their determination to create a “sparking effect” for the country drove their efforts.

Bayraktar highlighted the company’s steady growth, attributing its success to continuous research, development, and production of unique national products.

Having secured export agreements with 34 countries and becoming one of the 100 largest companies in the defense and aerospace sector globally, Baykar now sets its sights on the export of its advanced Bayraktar Akıncı drone.
