Turkish Defense Companies Rise in Global Top 100 Rankings

Turkish defense companies have made significant strides in the global rankings, with five firms finding a place among the top 100 defense companies, up from four last year. This achievement underscores the country’s growing prowess in the defense industry.

Aselsan, the prominent defense and electronics manufacturer, has emerged as the highest-ranking Turkish firm, elevating its standing to 42nd position this year from 47th a year ago. Alongside Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), the developer of the country’s ambitious fifth-generation fighter jet Kaan, Aselsan was one of the top performers, considering companies that increased their defense industry revenues the fastest compared to last year.

TAI, the Türkiye-based aviation firm, has also made a significant leap, soaring from 58th rank to be placed as 50th on the list this year. This advancement underscores the company’s growing prominence in the global defense industry.

Among other Turkish companies, Roketsan, the weapons and missile producer, had the biggest jump, moving from 80th to 71st rank. The newest addition to the list, Mechanical and Chemistry Industry Corp. (MKE), ranked 84th, while the Military Factory and Shipyard Management (ASFAT) rose from 100th last year to 94th.

Ahmet Akyol, the chief officer of Aselsan, expressed the company’s ambition to be among the top 30 defense firms globally by 2030. This goal reflects Türkiye’s broader aspirations to further strengthen its defense and aviation industry, which has already seen significant progress in recent years, with the country now exporting a range of military equipment.

The report also noted a surge in defense revenues among Asian and European firms, reflecting an “enhanced understanding of security challenges in the global environment.” The sole Ukrainian company on the list, Ukrainian Defense Industry, saw the largest defense revenue change, growing 72% due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

The rising presence of Turkish defense companies in the global rankings underscores the country’s commitment to developing a robust and self-reliant defense industry. As Türkiye continues to invest in advanced technologies and domestic production, its defense firms are poised to play an increasingly prominent role in the global defense landscape.
