Pakistan to Receive Sea Sultan Patrol Aircraft by 2026
The Pakistan Navy is set to transform its maritime surveillance capabilities through the Sea Sultan project, an ambitious maritime patrol aircraft acquisition program. Strategic Technological Enhancement
The modified aircraft will incorporate cutting-edge technologies including electronic intelligence sensors, an electro-optical turret, active electronically scanned array radar, satellite communications, and advanced weapon deployment systems. This comprehensive upgrade aims to replace the aging P-3C Orion fleet and significantly enhance maritime operational capabilities.
International Collaborative Effort
The project represents a sophisticated international collaboration. Leonardo leads the aircraft conversion, while Paramount Aerospace Systems manages maintenance and pre-conversion preparations. South African company Aerosud contributes by manufacturing specialized interior components, demonstrating a complex multinational engineering endeavor.
Naval Leadership Perspective
Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted the strategic importance of the Sea Sultan, describing it as a “remarkable addition” to Pakistan’s maritime patrol capabilities. The aircraft promises superior performance in range, endurance, anti-submarine warfare, and surface vessel detection compared to existing platforms.

Long-Term Vision
Pakistan Navy’s ultimate goal is to replace its entire P-3C Orion fleet with ten converted commercial jets. The first Lineage 1000 was inducted in September 2021 for crew training, with subsequent deliveries planned over the coming years as part of a phased modernization strategy.
