Germany Orders Up to 6,500 Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles

Rheinmetall has clinched its largest-ever order for military trucks from the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr). This Rheinmetall military trucks Bundeswehr contract, valued at up to €3.5 billion, marks a significant leap in Germany’s military logistics capabilities and Rheinmetall’s position in the defense industry.

The framework agreement, signed on July 1, 2024, in Koblenz, outlines the delivery of up to 6,500 military vehicles over seven years. This massive Rheinmetall military trucks Bundeswehr order encompasses various unprotected transportation vehicles, including the UTF 5t and UTF 15t models, alongside a new 4×4 UTF 3.5t category.

Key aspects of the Rheinmetall military

  1. An initial order for 610 vehicles worth €312 million
  2. 250 trucks slated for delivery in 2024
  3. Flexibility for the Bundeswehr to order additional quantities as needed
  4. Standardization with NATO allies for enhanced interoperability

Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, emphasized the rapid procurement process, stating, “The extremely short period of four months from the invitation to tender to the signature of the contract underlines once more that the turning point for procuring logistic trucks has been introduced.”

The Rheinmetall military trucks Bundeswehr program builds upon the success of previous contracts. By the end of 2024, Rheinmetall will have delivered over 6,000 HX vehicles to the Bundeswehr since 2017, including swap-body loader systems and 70t tractor units.

These military trucks, based on Rheinmetall’s robust HX family, are designed for high mobility in challenging terrains. The widespread adoption of the HX vehicle family by nations such as the UK, Australia, Norway, and Sweden underscores its reliability and performance in diverse operational environments.

Michael Wittlinger, Chairman of Rheinmetall Military Vehicles GmbH, highlighted the strategic importance of the deal: “The framework-contract is an essential contribution to a fast fulfillment of demand by the logistic forces of the Bundeswehr.

The standardized vehicle family and the uniformity with vehicles of other beneficiary nations establish the HX-vehicles as the main logistic vehicles within NATO.”
