Eurosam Launches SAMP/T NG Air Defence System

Eurosam has achieved a significant milestone in the development of the Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG air defence missile system with the launch of the global production of the system. This comes after the signing of a contract by Matteo Bisceglia, former Director of the OCCAR Executive Administration (EA), and Eva Bruxmeier, Managing Director of Eurosam. Get the latest update on the air defence technology as Eurosam launches SAMP/T NG Air Defence System.

According to plans, the system will be delivered to the French and Italian forces by the end of 2025, with availability for all present and potential customers starting in 2026. Eva Bruxmeier made this announcement while speaking to the media at the IDEX/NAVDEX 2023 exhibition in Abu Dhabi this week.

What is SAMP/T NG Air Defence System?

SAMP/T NG (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform, New Generation) is an advanced air defence system designed to protect against a wide range of airborne threats, including tactical and theatre ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and UAVs. The system is an upgraded version of the existing SAMP/T system, featuring advanced technologies and capabilities that make it a highly effective system in defending against a wide range of airborne threats.

The SAMP/T NG battery comprises four main components, which are: an engagement module that serves as the battery command and control, a multi-function radar that rotates 360 degrees and can be either the Thales Ground Fire 300 or the Leonardo Ground Mobile High Power, up to six launchers that can carry eight missiles each, for a total of 48 Aster munitions that are ready to be fired. With the use of a new multi-function radar that employs AESA arrays based on GaN technology and advanced processing, the system has an air surveillance detection range of over 350 km.

Additionally, the new Aster Block 1 NT version is equipped with a new active seeker and missile control enhancements, which enable the system to engage tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs) at longer ranges of over 150 km. The system is also capable of autonomously engaging TBMs with a range of 600+ km, and can track over 1,000 targets.
